Welcome from the Headteacher

Our school has achieved a great deal in the last 18 months. We have raised our standards and expectations, and that has had a real and positive benefit for our students.

While we have been focused on our immediate future, we have also been planning for how we support our school to develop for years to come.

A key part of this is our sixth form. Recruitment to our sixth form was paused for a year so that we could stop and consider how we can make our sixth form more relevant and more exciting for our students. During this pause we have been listening to what students and employers want and need, and looking at how local sixth forms are able to meet that need. What is becoming increasingly clear is that we think we can offer something that is both different and distinct, and that can evolve for years to come.

That is why I am delighted to introduce the new Meadow Park Business and Innovation Sixth Form Centre. The key to the offer is the two words in the middle of the title – Business and Innovation.

We are going to offer practical courses that take an exciting new look at how we support our students to access their futures.

We hope to welcome you in September.

Our Offer

In a changing world, we know many students are looking at apprenticeships and on the job training, something which also greatly appeals to employers.

The courses we offer will help students stand out to potential employers and get them into the world of work quickly. Some may even choose to go and start their own businesses.

Our offer is about more than just a course. It is about creating an environment that helps to give our students the ability to stand out in interviews and to be well rounded young people. In addition to our dedicated courses, our plan includes:

  • Treating our students as independent young people by giving them access to a dedicated newly refurbished study area and common room space with kitchenette.
  • Giving access to Meadow Park School Careers Advisor and supporting university and employment visits.
  • Running employability skills workshops – including CV writing; preparation for interviews; communication skills.
  • Arranging a Year 12 Work Experience Week to help build relationships with employers.
  • Supporting students to complete Silver and Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
  • Signposting access to bursaries and volunteering opportunities.
  • Every student will also be able to complete an Extended Project in their own area of interest.

Courses:

  • BTEC in Sport
  • BTEC in Health and Social Care
  • BTEC in Business
  • GCSE Maths and English resits will also be available
