At Meadow Park School we offer a range of BTEC Technical Awards/ Vocational Awards and GCSEs at Key Stage 4. The offering has been designed to provide access to a variety of subjects to suit all interests; increase the chances of students achieving the best overall grades possible at the end of Year 11 and to provide a wide range of opportunities for students to progress beyond Year 11.

Making the right decision is vitally important because the subjects chosen could influence future career possibilities.

When choosing subjects, students should consider:

  • Choose subjects you enjoy and in which you have the ability to be successful. You will be studying this subject for the next 2 years so it is important that you are interested in it.
  • Do some research into the careers and courses that might interest you when you leave in Year 11. Find out which subjects you might need and what grades you would need to achieve to do these courses.
  • DO NOT choose subjects because your friends are doing them or you think you will get a particular teacher. There is no guarantee that you will be in the same group or with the same teacher as someone else.
  • Learn about the courses you are interested in. Have a look at the types of learning, assignments and examination tasks involved.

Students in Year 9 choose between two pathways: Triple Science Pathway or Combined Science Pathway.

The Year 9 Options Booklet 2026 explains the different pathways and the subjects available to study.

Year 9 Options Evening for parents, carers and students will take place at Meadow Park School on Thursday 5th February 2026, 4-6pm.

Students are encouraged to read through the options booklet with their families and consider their options carefully. On Thursday 5th February at 4pm, every Year 9 student will be sent an email with a link to the Year 9 Pathways form. The Pathways form link will also be accessible through the Student and Parent Portal MCAS apps. All forms need to be submitted by Monday 2nd March 2026.
