We offer French and Spanish across KS3 and KS4, with KS5 French currently run at a local consortium school. We have a variety of resources available for both languages, which cover all of the required skill areas.
Intent
The Modern Foreign Languages curriculum at Meadow Park School aims to equip students with the knowledge and confidence to communicate effectively in a foreign language across a range of real-life contexts.
Through language learning, students explore and appreciate the cultures, traditions and perspectives of Spanish- and French-speaking countries, developing greater global awareness and intercultural understanding.
The curriculum also encourages students to develop resilience and problem-solving skills, particularly when encountering unfamiliar language. Ultimately, MFL aims to build confidence, independence and curiosity, enabling students to challenge themselves academically and broaden their understanding of the wider world.
Implementation
Lessons are carefully planned to develop the four core language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Schemes of work are sequenced to build progressively on prior knowledge, ensuring clear progression in vocabulary, grammar and communication skills.
A variety of teaching strategies are used, including modelling, guided practice, retrieval activities and responsive teaching, to support all learners.
Regular formative and summative assessments are used to monitor progress, inform teaching and support student reflection.
High-quality resources, including authentic texts, digital platforms and interactive activities, are used to enhance engagement and deepen learning.
Impact
The impact of the MFL curriculum is evaluated through a range of measures, including:
